Styling a Not So Basic Plaid Skirt
The plaid trend from last fall/winter is still going strong, and while I've mostly seen this pattern in the form of oversized blazer-style coats, I was drawn to this skirt instead. It's not a style I would normally gravitate towards as someone who usually sticks to more basic items, but something about it caught my eye. Because I like to dress casually, I paired the preppy skirt with a chunky, oversized sweater for a more relaxed look.
I got this skirt from Topshop, and they actually have quite a few similar styles at the moment (including this same skirt in a solid camel color). It's the perfect transition piece from winter to spring because you can wear it with or without tights depending on how cold it is where you are. I wore this bare-legged on a date night in San Francisco, and I was a little bit chilly but I managed.
Paper bag waist + buttons + asymmetrical zip = 😍
I sometimes find skirts tricky to buy because I don't love figure-hugging mini skirts, but you can also go too far in the opposite direction and end up with a skirt that makes you look like a bit of a triangle bottom. You know, when it flares out too much and makes you looks two times as wide as you really are.
The paper bag waist is really flattering, and makes it perfect for tucking things into. I'm planning to pair this with a bodysuit in the summer to show off the paper bag style a bit more.
